Surfing – Small Wave Capital of the World – Cocoa Beach, Florida
Cocoa Beach is the Small Wave Capital of the World and is one of the best surfing areas along the East Coast of Florida. Being situated on a barrier island it is only six miles long and one mile wide (less in some places) and yet is great for surfing. If you are a surfer and want to have a great time you will want to come to Cocoa Beach.
The east side of Cocoa Beach sits on the Atlantic Ocean while the west is bound by the Banana River (truly a saltwater lagoon.)
Grab your board and join in with the others that have found this area to be ideal for a great vacation.
When you get tired of surfing (if that is possible) you may want to go bike riding on the paths that are throughout the area or go see the nesting areas for the huge sea turtles. Cocoa Beach is one of the largest sites for these sea turtles with the signs clearly showing the known turtle nests. Don’t mess with them since it is a major crime with huge fines to disturb the nests since these are endangered sea creatures.
The sea oats, which look like very large oats and are really quite lovely, prevent the dunes from erosion so don’t mess with them either or face a large fine.
On Easter Weekend there are surf contest and festival and then again on Labor Day weekend there is Surf Fest where many of the famous professional surfers who make Cocoa Beach their home will be around for you to meet and watch. There are also the pros from around the world competing in the events.
There are live bands on the beach, concerts as well as great food and fun. Come to Cocoa Beach for the best vacation you can experience in Florida…especially if you are a surfer!
