Everglades Day Safari – Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Taking an Everglades Day Safari

Many times, when people are planning their vacation to Florida, they are thinking of all the great theme parks in the state, from Epcot and Disney near Orlando to Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay. Perhaps they are thinking of visiting one of the beaches, like Daytona or South Beach in Miami. Yet, one of the greatest adventures that one can have in Florida is a trip into the Everglades – it is like stepping into another world, and there is no place else in the world like this unique ecosystem.

While there are a number of different tours that can take you through the Everglades, one of the best known and respected companies is the Everglades Day Safari, which has been operating for nearly two decades. The Day Safari that they offer provides visitors with an airboat ride, a boat ride, a sit down lunch, a wildlife drive, and a nature walk.  They offer convenient pick-up locations for the West Coast (Fort Myers / Naples / Sanibel area) and the East Coast (Fort Lauderdale area).

The tour shows visitors the four different ecosystems that comprise the Everglades: the mangroves, the cypress swamps, the prairie, and the pine savannah. The Everglades Day Safari is a great trip that no one in the family is likely to forget anytime soon.

Airboat Ride

This is probably the best known way to see the Everglades – aboard a large boat that is propelled by a giant fan. This ride lasts an hour and takes you through an inland lake, and you are sure to see a variety of different wildlife, both in the air and in the water.

Boat Ride

The Everglades Day Safari boat ride lasts 90 minutes and takes you through the mangroves and toward the Gulf of Mexico. The whole trip is narrated, and the guide will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the Everglades. You can see a number of animals, including dolphins and manatees.

Wildlife Drive

The Wildlife Drive takes guests deep into the Cypress Preserve, where they can encounter a variety of different types of wildlife. While there are no guarantees, past visitors have seen alligators and black bears.

The Nature Walk

Hike through the cypress swamp and you just might get lucky enough to see a rare Florida panther, otters, deer, or a feral pig. The animals that live in the area are plentiful, so you never know what you might see.

An Everglades Day Safari is a trip that is well worth the price of admission. The tours last the whole day, and there is always the opportunity to see something spectacular.
