Unique Places to Visit in Florida
Florida is a vacationer’s paradise. You can find dozens of theme parks, wilderness, and incredible beaches on two coasts all within a few hours drive. It is no wonder that so many people each year make Florida their vacation destination.
However, there is more to Florida than just theme parks and beaches. Some of the best things you can see and do in Florida might be a bit off the beaten path, but they are still worthwhile and interesting. Here is a compilation of some fun and unique places to visit while on your Florida vacation.
Skunk Ape Research Headquarters in southwest Florida
Very few people who visit Florida know that there may be a creature very similar to Bigfoot skulking around the swamps of Florida. Many people claim to have seen such as beast, and some even believe they have evidence of its existence in the form of pictures and footprint casts. It is called the Skunk Ape because of a terrible odor that accompanies its appearance. While you might doubt the existence of such as creature now, a visit to the Skunk Ape Research Headquarters in Ochopee, Florida might just change your mind.
You can view some of the plaster casts, photographs, and newspaper clippings of sightings at the research center. It certainly makes for an interesting trip.
Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum in southeast Florida
Just about everybody in the world knows who Burt Reynolds is, and this museum is a testament to the actor’s staying power. The museum, located in Jupiter, Florida, contains photographs of the actor with a number of other celebrities, including presidents; magazine covers; and even some of his many awards such as the People’s Choice and Golden Globe. You will be amazed at all the different items on display.
This is also the location of the Burt Reynolds Institute, where one can attend acting classes! Don’t forget to check out the gift shop as well.
Coral Castle in southeast Florida
A single man built this amazing place, which opened in 1923, and has baffled people ever since. The megalithic rock statues in the park each weighs several tons, and it is a mystery as to how Ed Leedskalnin, a man who stood 5 feet tall and weighed about 100 pounds, could have created and moved these rocks. He claimed to have the secrets of the pyramids, but never showed anyone just how he worked.
Today, you can take a tour of Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida and conjecture as to how the eccentric man did it.
